Mark Baigent FW26 - MORTUUM

According to Western numerology, years move through cycles from one to nine, each carrying a distinct theme. Rooted in Pythagorean theory, 2026 is considered a year of renewal—one that demands self-agency, decisive action, and the momentum to shape what follows. While not drawn to esoterica, Mark Baigent recognizes the intuitive comfort of such frameworks, particularly in times of uncertainty. With the Autumn–Winter collection MORTUUM, Mark Baigent establishes a new foundation guided by personal conviction. Nine years after arriving in Bali on 1 January 2016, this period is understood as formative, one that cultivated self-worth and resilience, now activated for a new chapter.
Deconstructed silhouettes balance effortlessness with meticulous pattern-making, while hand-finished outerwear and considered material choices reflect care, labour, and persistence. MORTUUM ultimately proposes an ending as a necessity for renewal, an invitation to let one cycle die so another may begin with clarity, willpower, and the courage to change.

Resilience appears symbolically through the thistle, a plant associated in Austrian symbolism with protection and endurance, rendered as a print on pigment-dyed cottons and jerseys. The collection moves toward sharper tailoring, pairing traditional craftsmanship with raw finishes, zero-waste construction, and understated detailing. Rorschach-inspired inkblot prints introduce ambiguity and projection, positioning garments as surfaces for personal interpretation.

We are excited to present MORTUUM at Curate in New York, February 22nd to 24th, at 555 W 25th St, New York, NY 10001.
