At the heart of Karomi’s practice is a belief that tradition stays alive by evolving. This approach is especially visible in its work with Jamdani, one of Bengal’s most distinctive weaving traditions. Fine cotton muslins and silks are explored alongside natural dyeing, hand-block printing and Kantha embroidery to create textiles that feel both rooted and contemporary.

Making at Karomi is inherently collaborative. Each piece may pass through many hands and villages, bringing together the designer’s vision, the weaver’s knowledge, the character of the material and the artisan’s individual touch. These relationships also form the foundation of Karomi’s approach to sustainability: creating meaningful work, supporting livelihoods and valuing the natural variations of handmade processes.

Behind every textile is a human story - of yarn being prepared, looms in motion, hands stitching and printing, conversations over chai, and generations of knowledge carried forward.

From fibre to fabric, every Karomi piece reflects human effort, shared knowledge and the possibility of renewal - preserving craft not by keeping it unchanged, but by giving it a future.
